Objectives and Responsibilities
Imparting training to manpower working in the University and College libraries, in the use of ICT is one of the most important objectives of the Centre, which is given due priority. 946 training programmes, workshops and seminars focusing on the library automation and networking have so far been conducted till 31st December, 2023 benefitting 97246 participants from across the country. INFLIBNET Regional Training Programme on Library Automation (IRTPLA) is one of the popular training programmes organized by the Group in collaboration with colleges and universities regularly. User Awareness Training Programmes on e-resources subscribed under the eShodhSindhu project are being conducted across the country in collaboration with the universities. Besides, the Centre also conducts short-term and long-term specialized training programmes of variable duration depending upon the requirements of users. National and international conventions called PLANNER in North-eastern regions and International CALIBER in various states in India are being organized biannually as regular activity of the Centre. The Centre has also conducted 165 Training Programmes on SOUL Installation and Operations for Libraries.The HRD division maintains website http://hrd.inflibnet.ac.in for online registration for training programmes and workshops.
The Group is also involved in promoting automation in college and university libraries, identifying universities for funding for library automation and follow-up assistance to universities that receive funds for under library automation scheme of the UGC.
SOUL Support Cell
It is a joint activity of Software Development Group and Human Resource Development Group. The SOUL Support Cell looks after promotion, installation, trainings, onsite visits, data conversion, handling queries and troubleshooting etc. Also updates the content for SOUL website
The SOUL Support Cell coordinates with the Regional Service Centres, to manage the administrative and technical services related to SOUL software.
NER Project
HRD Division is also holding the responsibility of NER project to automate College libraries coming under UGC Act 2(f) & 12(B) section. The Centre provides free SOUL software, training to library professional and also conducts collaborative specialised workshops at North East Regions and also at INFLIBNET.
Library/Cyber Zone
HRD Division is holding responsibility of Centre’s Library, to develop collection for helping staff members to upgrade their required technical skills using books, journals and online e-resources etc. Cyber Zone is maintained by providing services to external faculty, research scholars and students from various institutes to access online e-resources subscribed under e-Shodh Sindhu.
HRD looks after Internship programme for MLISc students and their study visits. Also Industrial visits from various Institutes to the Centre.
HRD compiles contact details of University/Institutes annually for Directory/Calendar and also update online database at https://www.inflibnet.ac.in/universitydirectory/
